About this report
Water inspection robotics is useful when it produces evidence that a responsible asset owner can act on. This guide helps utilities compare crawlers, ROVs, inline sensing, aerial platforms and analytical software without confusing physical access, measurement, interpretation and engineering authority. It starts with the maintenance or renewal question, then follows method selection, coverage, location, review and data handover rather than treating distance traveled or video volume as the purchased outcome.
Twelve paired buying and evidence-acceptance briefs cover gravity sewers, large interceptors, laterals, chambers, pressure-main sensing, concrete and metallic pipe assessment, potable tanks, treatment structures, culverts, rehabilitation surveys and resident-robot development. The later analysis connects asset registers, coding, AI-assisted review, information governance and qualified work to ownership-versus-service decisions. Six companion CSVs include original procurement records and fictional calculations, with an applied case showing how repeat visits can improve evidence without creating additional accepted assets.

CSVs are editable records or static examples, not automatically recalculating models. No XLSX workbook is included. Blank worksheets are not completed approvals; fictional exercises must remain separate from operational records.
Free preview
The 10-page free preview includes the executive decision, scope and disclosure, commercial-system evidence, paired small-gravity-sewer buying and acceptance briefs, fictional ownership economics, publisher methodology, full-package inventory and sample source notes. It does not include the paid CSVs or the full applied buyer case.
Executive summary
Choose the sensor for the condition question and keep technology categories distinct. A visual crawler, remotely operated tank vehicle, acoustic leak-survey tool and material-condition platform do not establish the same facts. The report treats RedZone SOLO product announcements, Xylem methods and supplier-hosted customer cases as bounded evidence requiring local qualification. Pipebot Patrol’s manual traversal and planned autonomy tests remain development evidence, while Wessex Water’s AI-analysis trial is not a physical robot deployment. No reviewed evidence makes humanoids the commercial reference for submerged tanks or pipe interiors.
Contracts should define accepted coverage, stable asset identity, uncertainty, original evidence, competent interpretation and the right to retrieve usable records. Missing observations must remain unknown rather than becoming reassuring condition scores. Coding credentials, software exchange certification and AI suggestions do not authorize structural conclusions or operational changes. Evaluate capture, review, rework and follow-up together: a lower headline survey fee can buy more expensive accepted evidence. Ownership, specialist services and hybrid models should be compared against equivalent decision usefulness, analytical capacity, support and reversibility, with qualified asset owners retaining final authority.
Who this report is for
Utilities and municipalities planning water, sewer and drainage inspection programs.
Asset managers and engineering consultants defining condition questions and evidence acceptance.
Inspection-service, data and maintenance teams integrating reviewable observations into asset records.
Procurement and finance teams comparing platform ownership, specialist services and complete evidence costs.
Coverage
Inspection applications
sewers, interceptors, laterals, chambers, acoustic pressure-main surveys, concrete and metallic pipe assessment, tank ROVs, treatment structures, culverts, rehabilitation and resident-robot trials.
Method and evidence distinctions
visual, acoustic, geometric and material-specific sensing; coverage versus traversal; observation versus interpretation; location uncertainty and matched repeat surveys.
Accountability and data
asset-register reconciliation, condition versus risk, PACP/LACP/MACP scope, software exchange, AI review, errors, GIS/maintenance handover and governed supplier access.
Commercial decisions
qualified work and water-quality responsibilities, ownership versus service, regional support, representative trials, fictional financial sensitivities and unique-asset acceptance accounting.
Key questions
- Which asset decision needs new evidence, and which sensing method can answer that specific question?
- Does the source describe a commercial offering, supplier-reported case, analysis trial or research objective?
- What was actually observed and accepted, and which assets or features remain uncertain?
- Can the utility verify location, review history and original evidence without depending permanently on a supplier dashboard?
- How do analyst capacity, rework, repeat visits and retained specialist services change the complete investment case?

Methodology
Public-source research uses an evidence cutoff of 16 October 2026 and access checks on 17 October. The twelve-entry source_ledger.csv and evidence directory separate supplier product/case material, project updates, Ofwat funding, NASSCO programs, EPA guidance and a utility AI-analysis trial. Undated or historically uncertain pages retain their stated date limits and do not establish current regional availability.
Twelve paired workflow briefs are original procurement guidance, not inspection codes or engineering approval. Supplier cases are not independently audited. Capture, sensing, analysis and authorized asset decisions are distinguished, and method-specific indicators are not generalized into universal defect detection, remaining-life prediction or risk elimination.
Ownership and service comparisons, sensitivities and the unique-asset applied case are fictional teaching material. The ownership model excludes tax, financing, inflation and residual value; speculative catastrophic-failure savings are not included. The six CSVs are editable records or static calculations, not a live workbook. The applied case is separate from the earlier service-cost illustration and is not a revised supplier quote.
Generative AI assisted research synthesis, drafting, analysis, calculations and graphics. Source comparisons, computational cross-checks, text/navigation checks and visual layout reviews were internal production checks, not external professional review, certification or an independent audit. No hands-on robot field tests or interviews were conducted.
Disclosures
This is educational inspection-buying research, not an inspection code, engineering approval, legal advice or authority to change an asset’s service status. It supplies no confined-space, pressurized-system, electrical, chemical-treatment, diving, deployment or retrieval procedures. Qualified utility, engineering and water-quality authorities must approve actual work and decisions.
One Robotics Supply Group LLC publishes this report under Humanoid Robotics Reports. Its owner has ownership interests in related businesses, including robotics supply and distribution. As of 17 October 2026, the owner reports no investments in other companies covered by the collection and no current coverage-related sponsorship, dealer or referral connections. These statements are owner-reported, not independently audited; related-business ownership creates commercial interests readers should consider.
Company and operator statements remain attributed claims. Inclusion does not establish endorsement, supplier certification, authorized-dealer status or universal availability. Public evidence is selective and can be incomplete, promotional, mutable or later revised. Readers should obtain current technical and commercial evidence for their own application.
Fictional cases and calculations are teaching examples, not quotations, forecasts, proven results or completed approvals. Later production checks do not refresh every underlying fact. Any future material relationship, compensation or benefit relevant to coverage requires a specific, current disclosure in the affected material.
